Trying to come up with a good rum punch for a get-together, I ended up with this recipe:
- 1.5 oz dark rum
- 0.5 oz coconut rum
- 0.25 oz fresh lime juice
- 2 oz pineapple juice
- 2 oz orange juice (no pulp)
- 1 oz guava nectar
- 1 tsp grenadine
- 0.25 tsp almond syrup
Shake the ingredients together and serve on ice.
This ended up being pretty similar to a Planter’s Punch recipe I later found in one of my bar books (although I’ve noticed that Planter’s Punch recipes vary quite a bit from place to place). Looking at several other recipes, rum punch has a lot of room for experimentation. Most have about 2 oz alcohol and about 4-5 oz of juice per drink.
There is a lack of exotic juices around my town, so I like that this recipe keeps things fairly simple. I first tried it without the guava nectar, but I feel like the guava really improves the drink.
For the rum, I used Cruzan Aged Dark Rum and Cruzan Coconut Rum, both of which are very affordable.
